Sub-representação política das mulheres no Brasil: (in) efetividade da quota de gênero

Abstract

The following research aims to analyze affirmative gender policies and their possible contribution to increase the participation of women in Brazilian politics. In order to achieve this, it was sought to understand the place of women in contemporary society, to historicize the struggle for women's rights, especially political ones, and to contextualize, with emphasis on the principle of equality, the adoption of affirmative policies, portraying affirmative actions of gender adopted in other countries. The measures already adopted in Brazil to combat the political underrepresentation of women and possible reasons for their apparent failure were identified. Finally, the constitutionality and applicability, to the country’s legal order, of a new affirmative policy, the reservation of seats in the parliament, were analyzed.
