As razões pelas quais o sucesso da IIRSA importa para o campo da segurança, defesa e desenvolvimento nacionais

Abstract

The initiative for the Integration of South American Regional Infrastructure (IIRSA) was institutionalized in 2000 with the purpose of promoting the integration and modernization of the region's physical infrastructure, and counted on the participation of the twelve South American countries for the elaboration and definition of the priority projects, and their commitment to the implementation of the projects for regional integration. From the perspective of brazilian defense instruments, it is pointed out that the brazilian White Paper on National Defense defines South American integration as a strategic objective for foreign policy and national defense, given its importance for socioeconomic development and for the maintenance of peace. The importance of South American regional integration can also be based in the fundamentalist, neofundamentalist and transnationalist theories for the promotion of peace. Twenty years after the creation of IIRSA, this article will seek to map the investments in infrastructure for South American integration, made since the creation of IIRSA, and to identify the reasons why the success of this initiative matters for the field of security, defense and national development.
