A cooperação internacional no combate à criminalidade organizada transnacional na América do Sul: reflexões para incrementar a sua efetividade

Abstract

This document studies international cooperation in the fight against organized crime in South America and the relations established between States to face this threat. The goal is to identify the effectiveness of international cooperation, as an indispensable instrument to ensure punishment in situations where the acts, their consequences or the presence of criminals transcends geographical boundaries. Bibliographical survey on books and publications was used as the research methodology. The transnational organized crime threat in South America has been identified; it was outlined the paths that States are taking to strengthen international cooperation; and studied the international cooperation initiatives taking place in the region. It was concluded that the interinstitutional articulation between the agencies responsible for criminal prosecution and between the States which integrate the same regional security complex is paramount to increase effectiveness in the fight against transnational organized crime.
