Estratégia de segurança marítima para o Brasil no Atlântico Sul

Abstract

This monograph shows the strategic importance of the South Atlantic to Brazil. The objective of this study is, based on the relevance of the value of the sea, to emphasize the need to strengthen of the Zone of Peace and Cooperation of the South Atlantic (ZOPACAS), as established in the National Defense conditioning documents, and to analyze the evolution of the United States’ Strategy on Maritime Security, in order to can contribute as tools for Brazilian Navy to pursue the goal of a maritime security strategy in the South Atlantic. The chosen methodology comprises a descriptive nature. Books, papers, and academic articles on Maritime Strategy have been used as bibliographical resources. It elucidates on instruments that legitimate the Maritime Strategy (National Politic of Defense; National Strategy of Defense; and Books on Maritime Strategy) to bring about the perspective of its legal directives. Finally, it critically analyses the evolution of the United States’ Strategy on Maritime Security, evidencing the lessons learned throughout the time. The main topics are: national politics of defense; national strategy of defense; strategical importance of the South Atlantic; strategy; maritime security; United States' Strategy on Maritime Security. The conclusion draws lessons from the analysis of US maritime security strategies.
