O Brasil como Membro Permanente do Conselho de Segurança da ONU: uma análise crítica à luz da matriz SWOT

Abstract

This paper analyzes the Brazilian claim to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council using the SWOT matrix. The objective is to obtain the best strategic posture to be adopted by the Brazilian State according to the reality of the conjuncture suggested by the SWOT matrix analysis. This is a exploratory research, which uses the hypothetical-deductive method and runs through a geo-historical narrative from the creation of the League of Nations to the present day. Identifies and analyzes the main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that impact the Brazilian claim to join the Security Council as a permanent member. As a result, it concludes that the current situation signals the adoption of the “growth” strategic stance, signaling the need for the country to mitigate its weaknesses before embarking on a more incisive campaign to secure a permanent seat on the Security Council.
