Importância do Atlântico Sul para a segurança nacional e a integração com os países da América do Sul

Abstract

This research paper analyzes of the concepts of Geopolitics and Ocean Politics Following the conceptual analysis, the study addresses the political and strategic consequences that unfold from the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Constitution of the Sea. It then shows Brazil’s Oceanic Space of Interest and demonstrates the relevance the South Atlantic Ocean has for Brazil as it relates to the State, international relations, National Security, and the objectives of the Armed Forces. The study goes on to analyze Human Security within the fundamental concept of the State, international relations, and the effect globalization has on it. Within the context of globalization, the study points out the principal differences between National Security and that of Human Security, highlighting the challenges the XXI Century presents to National Security. Using the concept of Ocean Politics as a point of departure, this research analyzes its impact on Regional Integration. Finally, it identifies Policies, Strategies, Policies governing the Sector, and the goals to be reached or maintain, considering the South Atlantic Ocean, National Security, and Regional Integration. Throughout the research, the study establishes that the South Atlantic Ocean represents survival and prosperity for Brazil.
