| Abstract: | This essay analyzes the impact of 5G technology on cyber defense and cybersecurity in military environments, identifying how this technological innovation shapes a new field of strategic dispute in the 21st century. The research addresses the evolution of mobile networks, the main technical and operational characteristics of 5G, and its implications for Command and Control (C²) operations. It highlights the relevance of this technology to enhance the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces while emphasizing the challenges related to the expanded attack surface and the protection of critical infrastructures. The study also examines the role of institutions such as the Cyber Defense Command (ComDCiber) and strategic documents like the National Defense Policy (PND), the National Defense Strategy (END), and the National Cybersecurity Strategy (E-Ciber 2025). It concludes that 5G represents both an opportunity for military modernization and a source of emerging risks that demand robust cyber defense policies and digital sovereignty strategies. |
| Description: | Este ensaio analisa os impactos da tecnologia 5G sobre a ciberdefesa e a segurança cibernética em ambientes militares, identificando como essa inovação tecnológica configura um novo campo de disputa estratégica no século XXI. A pesquisa aborda a evolução das redes móveis, as principais características técnicas e operacionais do 5G e suas implicações para as operações de Comando e Controle (C²). Destaca-se a importância dessa tecnologia para o aprimoramento da capacidade operacional das Forças Armadas e, simultaneamente, os desafios relacionados ao aumento da superfície de ataque e à proteção das infraestruturas críticas. O estudo considera ainda o papel de órgãos como o Comando de Defesa Cibernética (ComDCiber) e de documentos estratégicos, como a Política Nacional de Defesa (PND), a Estratégia Nacional de Defesa (END) e a Estratégia Nacional de Cibersegurança (E-Ciber 2025). Conclui-se que o 5G representa tanto uma oportunidade para a modernização dos sistemas militares quanto um vetor de novos riscos que exigem políticas robustas de ciberdefesa e soberania digital. |
