Visita ao Palácio do Congresso Nacional: conhecer para proteger

Abstract

The institutional visit to the National Congress began after the promulgation of the 1988 Constitution, enabling citizens to get closer to the Brazilian parliament. Thus, the objective of this research was to understand the contribution of visitation to the appreciation of national cultural heritage and to the strengthening of Defense culture, following the invasion of Congress on January 8, 2023. Through an exploratory study, which combined document analysis, bibliographical research and application of questionnaires, it was possible to describe the visitation itinerary and the works of art on display at the Congress. The results of the questionnaires demonstrate that the visitation program changes the citizen's perception of Congress, as it reinforces the visitor's interest in the preservation and appreciation of cultural heritage. In the final considerations, it was concluded that the visitation is a heritage education action that strengthens ties with the community, encourages the appreciation and protection of heritage and the defense mentality.
