Abstract

This article is based on the Military Defense Doctrine and current combatants on the global stage. Objective: The objective of this research is to investigate the suitability of the Military Defense Force in contemporary environments, in order to open up thinking in relation to National Defense. Method: Documentary research was carried out in public and official sources from the Ministry of Defense, as well as a bibliographical review based on current theoretical references on war and armed conflicts. Includes academic studies, expert analyses, and reference works that address landslides of global nations and contemporary warfare. Furthermore, let’s look at the historical facts of the results of the conflicts and the strategies used. Results: It was identified that DMD is suitable for conventional warfare as the main purpose of preparing and training the armed forces. However, today, irregular, intra-state and unconventional conflicts will become more frequent and complex than so-called “classic” conflicts. Conclusions: After analyzing the DMD and the current context, it is noted that the DMD needs to consider a preponderance of the different forms of current warfare represented by irregular and strategically asymmetrical conflicts, consequently obscuring current thinking in the preparation and training of the Armed Forces for or fulfillment of its mission.
