A Tecnologia 5g e possíveis impactos para a Segurança Nacional

Abstract

This work addresses the implementation process of 5G technology in Brazil, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, European Union, and possible impacts on National Security. The main objective is to identify the approaches and adopted decisions by the mentioned countries; the aspects related to National Security; the existence of geopolitical factors involved in the choice of technology; the main stakeholders; and which are the possible strategies that could enable mitigation of security risks. While China and the United States use narratives to impose themselves as a global leader, the European Union works in a coordinated way to mitigate risks and threats arising from the digitization of the economy and the vulnerabilities arising from 5G, started to establish technical and strategic measures, which are monitored and periodically reassessed, and the diversification of suppliers throughout the supply chain. In Brazil, Anatel maintained its neutrality and adopted a technical position in the 5G´s Bid, the largest offer of radio frequencies so far. The security of the telecommunications network was dealt with by the GSI/PR and by Anatel in specific regulations, given the existing vulnerabilities to National Security.
