A Importância da Geointeligência nas Operações Interagências na Amazônia em Prol da Defesa Nacional

Abstract

The Amazon is one of the hotspots of particular interest in the Defense. Considered strategic for the country and also recognized internationally for harboring mineral reserves of all kinds and the greatest biodiversity on the planet, it constitutes an indisputable heritage of Brazil represented by goods and services relevant to the State and society. The reduction of illegal deforestation rates requires an urgent solution and Geospatial Intelligence products contribute to mitigating the causes of deforestation through permanent monitoring. However, the use of Geospatial Intelligence products must be carried out with assertiveness, opportunity, and effectiveness. The Verde Brazil Operations 1 and 2 took place, respectively, in 2019 and 2020, to combat environmental offenses in Amazonia. This article analyzes how the deployment of Geospatial Intelligence in Interagency Collaborations aiming to mitigate the threat of deforestation contributes to National Defense. In addition to bibliographic and documentary research, visits, data collection, and interviews with government agencies were carried out. Without wishing to exhaust the list of suggestions for improvements in the application of Geospatial Intelligence in Interagency Collaborations, some possibilities for improvements in this field are listed here.
