A preparação da Força Aérea Brasileira para operações de contrainsurgência

Abstract

This Course Completion Work aimed to verify the level of preparedness of the Brazilian Air Force (BAF) in counterinsurgency operations. Initially, the research sought to present deep concepts about insurgency, counterinsurgency and the Airpower employment in this type of environment. In this sense, the characteristics of the insurgency and the main causes for its implementation were highlighted. Following this, the importance of a comprehensive strategy that primarily involves political, economic and social actions was emphasized, with military actions being yet another policy instrument for achieving its objectives. Consequently, the study identified the role of airpower in counterinsurgency operation that revolve widely in support of other armed forces and government agencies, making it a force multiplier, thus highlighting aspects related to integration and interoperability. In addition, it became clear the importance of using Air Force more forcefully with the use of precision guided munition on specific occasions during the counterinsurgency operation. After the qualitative and quantitative of the Organizations, Means, Instruction and Training of the BAF, the research revealed that these factors require optimization to support Counterinsurgency Operations more efficiently and effectively, while showing the need to exploit the full potential and obtain the maximum benefit from the existing resources. Finally, the study concluded that the level of preparedness of the BAF for counterinsurgency operations is satisfactory.
